Join Asian American curators, scholars, and art administrators for a discussion on how Asian artists made alliances and created networks of exchange in order to come to the United States and make sustainable studio practices in New York in the 1960s. Coinciding with Tina Kim Gallery’s historical presentation of Minoru Niizuma and Kim Tschang-Yeul, the conversation will shed light on how artists like Niizuma and Kim acted as bridges for the artist communities of their native countries. The conversation will touch on the relevance of methodology, omissions in the Western art historical canon, diplomacy, and institutional engagement.
